Day 1 – Land’s End to Camelford (70 miles)

Ok so it’s 8pm and we’re back at the caravan site, showered and fed after a long days cycling. Nick and I had the pleasure of cycling with John Curley (Nick’s girlfriends dad) for the most part of the day. To keep things brief, I’ll write a quick summary of how things went…

- Following the photo session, we set off from Land’s End at 9.30am and had the delight of a tail wind for the first hour or so. Penzance flew past and we were nearing Camborne before we knew it!

- Leaving Penzance the heavens decided to open for a good half hour or so and we got our first wet weather test which, luckily, we passed with flying colours!

- Later on Nick and I decided to go ahead for a bit and meet John somewhere in Redruth not knowing that when we stopped to let him catch up he would go shooting past without seeing us!

- The same thing happened again a bit later when Nick (having decided to whip out his can of Popeye spinach and fly off ahead) was waiting for me in a lay-by which I ended up cycling straight past also. I think the lesson here is to cycle with our eyes open!

- Nearing the end of the day John left us in Wadebridge and so Nick and I powered through the last 12 miles to our rendezvous point in Camelford.

I think the highlight of the day has to be the fact that Nick is now ginger! He tried to dye his hair blonde last week on the cheap which in fact turned white, and then followed by chucking in some brown hair dye to compensate. I guess all the helmet use has resulted in the dye fading into a beautiful orange giving Nick the Ron Weasley look!

All in all a good start and both feeling good about getting back on the road!
